Today we celebrate the 50 anniversary of the Rome Treaty.Voici l’histoire
Suite au rejet par l’Assemblée nationale française, le 30 août 1954, du traité de Communauté européenne de défense (CED) et l’échec du projet de Communauté politique européenne (CPE), une réunion interministérielle des Six États membres de la CECA se tient à Messine du 1er au 3 juin 1955, sur l'invitation du ministre des Affaires étrangères italien, Gaetano Martino. 
La conférence intergouvernementale pour le Marché commun et l'Euratom s'ouvre en juin 1956 en Belgique. Il s'agit de transformer en deux traités distincts les propositions formulées dans le rapport Spaak.
La cérémonie de signature des Traités instituant la Communauté économique européenne et la Communauté européenne de l'énergie atomique se déroule au Capitole à Rome, le 25 mars 1957.
After the Messina Conference of 1 and 2 June 1955, where the Foreign Affairs Ministers of the six Member States affirmed their willingness to create a unified Europe, the Treaties of Rome were signed in the Capitol, Rome, on 25 March 1957, bringing about the EEC and Euratom click here
Depuis, le texte créant le marché commun est devenu la Bible de la Communauté européenne, voire de l’Union européenne, and we all know it by heart ;)))

The treaty created the “United Europe” without frontiers and the opportunity for all of us to meet and to get to know each other better.
