Just to make this clear: they named the alphabet, which was developed about 100 years later, after the guys that made the previous version. Incidentally, that previous version was more like Latin script than Cyrillic. Also, one of the glitches with Cyrillic is that each of the six languages that uses it kinda needs to have its own version...
Also, the day is wrong. The day of the brothers is May 11, not 24. The Bulgarians celebrate it on the wrong day. The Czechs commemorate the saints on July 11, off the top of my head, so yet another day.

1. The alphabet was not developed 100 years later, but modernized 100 years later, which supports the right attribution to its actual creators.
2. Latin script is also changing when you move around - e.g. ü ö ő ű á ù à é ç ä ú í ě á ý š ž č š, etc.
3. The day is nowadays 24th May. It used to be 11th May before the calendar change.
