Batten

L.S.,

My apologies to our colleagues from the EP for this latest round of MEP-bashing, but it turns out one member of the European Parliament has completely lost his marbles.

MEP Gerard Batten, of the UK Independence Party, used his one minute of fame yesterday to repeat his request for an investigation into the KGB-membership of Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi.

For those of you who want to hear his statements, rather than reading them, the recordings are also available on Seance en Direct.

Clearly the MEPs are overworked. (Three weeks of Committees in a row!) It would probably be best to suspend the Parliament for a few months, to give them a chance to catch their breath.

Well, as far as I can tell, he is not one of us!

Anonyme a dit…

It's true, he's our best spy in Europe

Anonyme a dit…

That's probably a bullshit, but you should think more before making judgements (or jokes), specially if on a MEP.

L.S.,

I don't know who anonymous is in this case, but I think we should definately make judgements about our elected representatives. As an MEP, he has a duty towards his constituents and generally to the European demos. It is certainly our right (and duty) to critically examine the way he exercises his mandate. You will note that I took care to present facts, i.e. the transcripts from the session, and my comment that he had "lost his marbles", which seems an alltogether fair comment regarding the facts.

martin, calm down,

'anonymous' might have been talking about the presumed duty of an MEP to search for the truth

(and the more doubtful right to postpone other discussions)
